NOV Sreyleab is an experienced theater performer turned troupe manager. She acquired her acting skills with the famed Phare Ponleu Selpak “Brightness of the Arts” Association in Battambang, Cambodia, Sreyleab toured around Cambodia with Phare on Awareness theater and circus for more than 10 years. The troupe perform for and educate Cambodian people on health and social issues ranging from HIV/AIDS, malaria, dengue fever to landmines, human rights, women and children rights, ethnic minority rights, workers rights, safe migration, gender issues, personal finance and saving. Forum Theater was used in the campaign methodology at a later stage in her career thanks to workshops funded by the European Union through Phare. Sreyleab was part of 30 Cambodia actors who were cast on a 7 hour speaking theater play that toured Europe two times with Phare’s partner Le Theatre du Soleil. The play is based on a book written in 1984 entitled “Terrible, Yet Unfinished Story of Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia”. Today, Sreyleab leads a team of theater artists called the Battamg Theater Troupe and is conducting a project using theater to empower communities and villages in Battambang towards gaining access to their basic needs, rights and resources.
