The Benefits of Joining Asian TYA Network and ricca ricca*festa

The benefits of Asian TYA Network are very big for any companies, NGOs and organizations to build up connections and collaborate to produce or exchange about TYA in the future. On behalf of Phare Performing Social Enterprise and Phare, The Cambodian Circus (pharecircus.org) I would like to thank ricca ricca*festa and Japan Foundation for having us at the ATYA and experience ricca ricca*festa in Okinawa, Japan.

Asian TYA Network

Experiences

  • During ricca ricca*festa, I was experiencing a lot of TYA performances in different formats.
  • I met many people of the ATYA network and members of TYA (CEO's, festival directors, artistic directors and artists etc.) It was a good opportunity to share our experiences.
  • Presentations of a various companies on what we are doing and seeking for.
  • Finding out the challenges and solutions to conduct the festival and run it smoothly. How to make strong collaborations with our partners in a long term partnership.
  • Especially, I experienced Japanese’s food and great culture at Naha in Okanawa, Japan.

Asian TYA Network

Purposes and Results

  • Explore TYA in South East Asia and Europe and gather more members to join the TYA Network
  • To generate more TYA beyond what we are have now.
  • Young audiences can be our potential audiences in the future.
  • Phare, The Cambodian Circus and WOW Arts Cambodia (wowartscambodia.com) will make a forum and conduct the TYA festival in Cambodia in future. We aim to invite some of our partnerships in South East Asia to join this event.
  • To exchange the arts culture.
  • We also want to dig out all well-known and fantastic theatres which disappeared during Khmer Rouge 1975-1979 for Cambodian and people around the world to know.
  • Explore and provide an amazing time, enjoyment and experience to people in next generation about theatre.

I met around 30 people during ricca ricca*festival and ATYA network. Below are just some of contacts who I met:

  1. China has a million USD annual budget by their government for supporting festivals. This is a good opportunity for Phare to make connections. I have talked to Mr. Li Ping who is a director at China Association of Performing Arts during the Open Talk day. He would be interested in seeking our performances for Chinese festivals in the future. I am going to send him information about Phare and will invite him to see our show if there is a chance. I will keep in touch with this company.
  2. Papermoon is a company based in Indonesia which hold their own festival every year but they have to find funding by themselves and receive some support from France. I met Mrs. Maria Tri Sulistyani who is a director of the festival and discussed about TYA in Cambodia. She would love to find out more about us and perhaps there will be a chance for her to come to see us. I will send her more information about Phare and aim to make a collaboration with her in the future.
  3. Bict Fest is a company which hosts a big TYA festival every year in Thailand. This company is a potential partner for Phare to build up a strong collaboration in future. According to my conversation with Mrs. Adjjima, who is a festival director, she is eager to visit us very soon and found out about Phare already through my briefing. I will keep in touch and expect to bring our show to Thailand for her festival.
  4. Samathai Marionette Arts for Social Foundation is a festival company which hosts a puppet festival every year in BKK, the festival is to happen in November. Piewnam Chalermyart, Vice President and Puppeteer, is seeking some puppet performances to join her festival in BKK. I will try to connect her with other companies which produce puppet shows in Cambodia.
  5. Laos has a puppet festival which receives a small amount of support from the government. They used to visit Phare Ponleu Selpak many years ago. This community has dance, puppet, circus and music classes etc. During my dialogue with Mrs. Nouth Phouthavongsa from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, who is Head Of Research at the Management of Performing Arts Division. She would like to co-operate with Phare, and I will invite her to visit us again one day.
  6. Mellisa Tan, of the National Arts Council Singapore, is looking for TYA. This company mostly works with young audiences from 3 to 7 years old. Though Phare does not really produce TYA, I aim to help generate TYA in future to bring to South East Asian countries. My expectations are to make a strong relationship and cooperate with this company. For more information: www.nac.gov.sg
  7. Montage La Theater Magique is a company based in Brazil which produces theatre, circus, TYA, dance and music. They open partnerships for all to share or volunteer over short or long term periods. This would be a big opportunity for Phare artists, management or stage directors to learn, share and gain experience, especially making a right instruction to develop Phare. This firm is also seeking for any kind of performances to attend a festival in Belgium. We will keep in touch and hope to work with them in the future.
  8. Wow!artscambodia is conducted by Mr. Hugh Brown (wowartscambodia.com) and Phare. This Cambodian Circus is going to make a strong collaboration to produce TYA in Cambodia. We are eager to provide a TYA festival in Cambodia which can educate young kids and teenagers.

Asian TYA Network

There are more contacts that I am keeping in touch with through email and Facebook. I believe that through my connections with ATYA I'll be able to explore and bring more members to join. I hope Phare Circus will be a member of ATYA in the future.

Thanks again to all the team of ricca ricca*festa and Japan Foundation for working hard on my Visa, and for the warmest welcome in Okinawa. I really appreciate that. It was an amazing time for me to meet all of you as brothers, sisters and friends. I strongly believe that I will be there again next year. If you need any further information beyond of this report, please kindly do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

Best Regards,

Ratha Ya
