Ruth Pongstaphone is a theatre maker, independent educator, and social researcher whose works focus on developing an adaptive pedagogy of liberation using the process of performance creation and ensemble theatre as a mode of participatory action research and a vehicle for implementing social change at a grassroots level. Ruth has received support from institutions including, the United Nations (Bangkok) and the Institute Francais de Birmanie (Yangon). She has taught at New York University, Hampshire College, Trinity College, as well as, several private programs throughout Myanmar. In 2018 Ruth was chosen as the “Artist for Social Change” by Claremont McKenna College.
